The Public Works Department is currently recruiting for a Deputy Power Station Manager. The directorate is one of the largest departments in the Falkland Islands Government. Working alongside of the Power Station Manager you will be responsible for the generation and distribution of electricity within Stanley and all electrical engineering works associated with Falkland Islands Government.
The postholder will be required to assist in the day to day running of all aspects of the Power & Electrical section, duties will also include formulating, directing and planning the engineering management of the power station and distribution system plant and equipment both electrical and mechanical in order to maintain an efficient and effective electricity supply.
Uphold, interpret and implement the requirements of the Electricity Supply Regulations and the current Institution of Electrical Engineer Wiring Regulations for Electrical Installations, both in the public and private sector, to maintain coherent and recognized standards for participants on the electrical industry in the Falkland Islands.
Authorise, test and conduct isolation and switching procedures of live supply systems up to and including 22,000 volt, so that work on these systems can be undertaken safely with a minimum of disruption to customers.
Co-ordinate with other sections, Government Departments and contractors with respect to electrical works, to ensure minimum disruption, and maximum efficient use of manpower and materials.
Review and ensure budgetary restraints as directed by the Power Station Manager are adhered to with regard to the department’s own activities and projects undertaken.
In the absence of the Power Station Manager you will be required to undertake and perform their duties requiring a need to be constantly aware of all facets of the section’s operations.
The successful applicant will require excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with members of the public, be able to manage, motivate, supervise and mentor staff this will include performance management.
You will be expected to analyse situations under pressure and act accordingly.
Candidates should hold a HNC/HND Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, along with 5 years supervisory experience which includes staff, budget and project management.
