The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in the Falkland Islands seeks an experienced and enthusiastic speech and language therapist with a paediatric interest to manage the paediatric speech and language therapy caseload and lead the development of the paediatric speech and language therapy service.

The hospital is the principal healthcare facility in the Falkland Islands, providing primary care and community services and a broad range of elective and emergency secondary care services.  It is a modern and well-equipped facility with ambitious plans to further develop services and facilities.  Healthcare professionals at the hospital are afforded the time and support to provide care of the highest standards and to continually develop their skills and expertise.

The Role

The role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating children across a range of speech and language communication difficulties including acquired and developmental disorders.  Working collaboratively with families, multi-disciplinary teams, and other agencies is an essential part of the role.  The postholder will lead service development and quality improvement within the field of paediatric speech and language therapy.         

The Person

An experienced and enthusiastic qualified speech and language therapist with: 

• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council or equivalent professional registration body in a comparable country
• Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists or equivalent professional body in a comparable country
• Five years or more post-registration experience as a speech and language therapist in Great Britain or a comparable country
• Three years or more experience of working with a paediatric caseload

The Package

• A base salary of £43,141 to £53,055 (dependent upon experience)
• A gratuity (lump sum) payment on completion of contract equivalent to 25% of the total salary value of the contract.
• A relocation allowance, to help with moving costs.
• Paid leave of 41 days comprising 30 days of annual leave and 11 days of government/public holidays.
• Free flights for employee and recognised dependants at post both at the beginning and end of the contract plus additional annual return flights after the first year.
