Fisheries Scientist (Toothfish) 

Starting Salary: This is a dual graded role depending on qualifications and experience, commencing from £36,274 - £41,668 per annum within Grade D1 or from £43,141 - £49,590 per annum within Grade C.

The post is for a fixed term of up to four years in the first instance with the possibility of extension. Secondment and Interchange opportunities will be considered.

The Opportunity: To undertake and co-ordinate age, growth, and biological research of Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) and provide timely scientific advice to the Government for long-term sustainable management of the fishery for this species.

The Role:The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of age, growth and biological research on Patagonian Toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides), with the goal of providing timely, effective and well informed management advice and recommendations to the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) in order to facilitate the effective management of this commercially exploited species on a long-term sustainable basis. The post holder will also be responsible for Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification targets.

The Person: Will be quaified to Ph.D. level in an appropriate fishery,marine,biological or zoological dicipline. Have a good publicaiton record in peer-reviwed scientific literature (>10 papers). Evidence of continuing personal scientific development.
