An opportunity exists for a significant role in legislative drafting in a unique British overseas territory—the Falkland Islands:

The Position

You would be one of two full-time Legislative Drafters in the Falkland Islands Government’s small, friendly and professional Legislation Services team (working together with the Head of Legislation and the Legislation and Gazette Manager). Your main duties would include:

  • Providing a high quality drafting service in respect of both primary and secondary legislation for the Falkland Islands Government (and the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands)
  • Developing effective and productive working relationships with stakeholders in the development of new laws
  • Contributing to the improvement of drafting practices and procedures
  • Working with and supervising external contract Legislative Drafters

 The Person

To apply, you must be a solicitor or barrister with at least five years’ post-qualification experience (including a minimum of three years in legislative drafting in the United Kingdom, a British Overseas Territory, Ireland or the Commonwealth). You must be an effective and responsible team member, with the skills and motivation needed to thrive in a new working environment.

The Package

Salary: up to c£93k (inclusive of 25% annual gratuity, subject to satisfactory performance). Starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience.

Other Benefits: A favourable tax regime, a relocation allowance on appointment, an annual return flights package and 41 days’ annual leave (inclusive of public holidays).

Contract Type: Fixed term appointment - ordinarily 2 years (but a shorter or longer period can be considered), with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement. Secondment opportunities will also be considered.
