An exciting opportunity exists in the South Atlantic for a full time vet to join the small, busy and very varied practice in the Falkland Islands starting in May 2020.

The Role

The Veterinary Services of the Falkland Islands Government invites applications for the post of Veterinary Officer.

The position consists of a combination of clinical and public health duties including supervision in an EU approved Abattoir and the Fishing Industry. Out of hours are not usually busy and are worked on a 1:3 rota system.  

The Person

Applicants must have at least 5 years’ clinical experience including surgical skills and preferably have Official Veterinary qualifications or must be willing to obtain them.

He/she should be capable of working as part of a small dedicated team, be prepared to fill a varied role, and interact closely with the community of the Falkland Islands to provide a complete, professional clinical and public health Veterinary Service

The Package

    • Initial 2-4 Years Fixed Term Contract, with potential for extension by mutual agreement.
    • Salary Range £41k-56k, starting salaries will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
    • Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract.
    • 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave).
    • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
    • Flights Package for you and your dependents, including mid-term return flight home.
    • Government Housing for rent at Governmnet rates and a starter pack to help you settle in.
